For anyone missing Family Fun Center, you might want to give Capitol Arcade a try at 10th and Dodge. It’s not on the same scale, and that’s OK because it’s still a blast.
Following the lead of places like Beercade, it is an arcade bar with adult beverages and snacks. Located inside the old One Thousand Dodge Events space at 1002 Dodge Street, it’s family-friendly during the daytime hours.
Despite being smaller than some other arcades, it has a solid selection of arcade games, including the always-favorite Mario Kart DX, as well as air hockey, basketball, skee-ball, a variety of pinball machines, motorcycle and driving games, a giant Connect 4, Piano Keys, and a variety of games designed solely for the purpose of acquiring as many tickets as possible for use in its small prize shop. It also contains a mirror maze and Mission Box, which allows you to play games like the floor is lava.
The bar area looks more upscale and contains a dozen or so beer taps ranging from Coors Light to craft beer, including some local options, as well as cocktails and snacks. It has stools lining the bar as well as some booths and tables to place your drink while you play. I suspect, like the others, it’s adults-only at night given that it has a bar. Capitol Arcade is operated by Let’s Go Putt, who also opened The Fat Putter across the street. They also have Prehistoric Putt and Medieval Putt. Check out their dual deal if you plan to visit both.
No one’s going to confuse the Capitol Arcade with Family Fun Center, and that’s OK. It’s not trying to be, but as a downtown option for a couple hours of unplugged fun, it holds its own.
