Tucked inside Hotel Indigo is Anna’s Place, a speakeasy named in honor of Omaha’s “Queen of the Underworld.”

While I had heard of Anna’s Place, it wasn’t until I was doing research for an exploration of Hotel Indigo that I got the opportunity to visit. Some of you are aware that there’s another establishment named for Anna Wilson: Wilson & Washburn. That may lead you to ask, who exactly is Anna Wilson? Among other things, she was Omaha’s famous madam whose heart of gold gave the city its first hospital. I have a full article dedicated to her if you’d like to learn more.

Back to Anna’s Place. Located at 1804 Dodge Street and owned by Devon Mundt, the hidden cocktail lounge opened in 2022. Its entrance is tucked away just past the front desk near the lobby. Once you encounter it just past the snack area, you’ll see a light on the door. If it’s red, you need to wait until it turns green, at which point you can knock on the door for entry.

While the red lights contrasted against the darkness may take a minute for your eyes to adjust, once you do you realize what a cozy and relaxing environment it is. It contains a variety of comfortable seating options. The sketches of burlesque dancers from local artist Watie White allow some visual stimulation between sips or pauses in conversation.

The drink menu offers several varieties of Old Fashioneds along with many other options. It is known for its reliance on local and house-made ingredients and its pop-up cocktail events. Each has a different theme such as the upcoming Season of the Witch on November 30th. It will feature four drinks inspired by pagan and witchcraft traditions. Tickets can be purchased on its website.

Anna’s Place is further proof of this city’s love for its most notorious brothel owner. And rightfully so.

Update: In 2026, Anna’s Place announced it is moving from Hotel Indigo to the Old Market at 1111 Harney Street in the former Mouth of the South space.
