In case you missed it, there’s a new plan for the Crossroads site at 72nd and Dodge. Since it was originally purchased 15 years, there have been a number of failed attempts to redevelop the site at one of the city’s busiest intersections.

This time the $900M project is being led by Woodbury Corporation. The Utah-based company likes to take over and redevelop old shopping centers and has ongoing projects in Lincoln and Grand Island.

Construction of the mixed-use development is expected to begin in the spring with a 92,000 sq ft entertainment complex, a 40,000 sq ft outdoor plaza that is surrounded by retail and office space. It also includes an apartment complex with ground-level retail. The city will build and operate three parking garages on the site with two of them being below ground.

The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in 2026 or 2027 with the entire site being developed by 2032.
There are other major changes underway in this section of Omaha that has long needed redevelopment. They included the new central library on the SW corner and a soon-to-be announced major project on the NE corner where Petco currently sits.

What are your thoughts on this latest proposal? From what I’ve read, it seems like it may actually come to fruition given the track record of Woodbury. I’d love to hear what you have to say so feel free to leave a comment.
Until next time, keep exploring!
