If you just stumbled onto this site, welcome to Omaha Exploration!

OE launched in August 2023 from the idea that the places that surround us have stories worth telling. The bar on the corner, the building that’s been sitting vacant for years, the park you drive past every day without thinking twice. There’s almost always something interesting underneath the surface, and this site exists to dig it up.
My name is Patrick, and I’m a lifelong Omahan with a deep love for local history and a passion for sharing stories. I’m not a professional historian or journalist, but once a subject catches my interest, I research it thoroughly using newspaper archives, census records, city directories, photo archives, and a range of other sources. I try to get it right, and when I don’t, I fix it.
The topics here range from the origin stories of longtime Omaha businesses and buildings to new developments shaping the city’s future. If it’s part of Omaha’s story, past or present, it’s fair game.
OE also gives back. A portion of the revenue generated here goes directly to Mustaches for Kids Omaha, a non-profit that raises money for local children’s charities that I have been involved with for more than a decade. So if you’ve found something here worth reading, sharing it or subscribing helps more than you might think.

By now, you may be asking, what Is Mustaches for Kids Omaha?
Mustaches for Kids Omaha is the local chapter of Mustaches for Kids America, a volunteer-run organization started in Los Angeles in 1999 to do good and have fun by growing mustaches for children’s charities.
The concept is simple: get pledges and donations to grow a mustache for one month. All money raised goes to local children’s charities. We are a 501(c)(3) organization.
As of 2025, we have raised over $9 million for over 35 great local charities.
