Today is the 9th Annual Omaha Porchfest. For those that are unfamiliar, it is a free community music festival in which you walk from stage to stage throughout the Gifford Park neighborhood. Many of the stages are the front porches of the historic houses. Some are also reserved for art, poetry, open mic and comedy.

You’ll also find a variety of food trucks and drink options. Click the link to learn more about the event: https://porchfestoma.tumblr.com/.

Porchfest is not unique to Omaha having originated in Ithaca, New York in 2007. It started with a husband and wife playing instruments outside their home. Neighbors noticed and thought, hey, this is cool, let’s do this throughout the neighborhood. The event spread to more than 200 cities in the United States and Canada including Omaha in 2017.
