Some exciting new features will be opening at River’s Edge Park in the spring. Located at the eastern end of the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge in Council Bluffs, it includes the 138 ft MidAmerican Energy Tower with rollgliders in addition to the Treetop Walk.

Similar to a zipline, the rollglider features two 480 ft tracks that will take riders around the trees before looping back to a platform located on the tower. An adventure course will provide outdoor activities including a 50 ft climbing wall and 400 lineal ft of climbing through a a cave-like environment. The tower will also include multiple viewing platforms on different levels and provide views of the Missouri River in addition to Omaha and Council Bluffs. It will offer seating, restrooms and elevators. Access to the observation platforms and treetop walk will be free. The cost of other activities have not yet been determined.

Also in the works is the Treetop Walk with elevated pathways that will wind through the trees on the park’s north side The 1/2 mile loop will feature educational components in addition to views of Omaha’s skyline while connecting to both the pedestrian bridge and the tower. The project also includes the Charles E. Larkin Pier, dog park and a new playground in addition to Belle’s Play Garden, the Missouri River-themed playground with water features.

The 90 acre River’s Edge Park was completed in 2013 and includes a five acre great lawn and amphitheater. The park is designed to accommodate festivals, concerts and other events while providing great views of downtown Omaha. It features more than 40 miles of trails for pedestrians and cyclists and the hard-to-miss 33 ft tall stainless steel sculpture called “Looking Up” by artist Tom Friedman which depicts a a man peering up into the sky as he watches the clouds pass by overhead.
