There’s yet another attempt underway to address the housing shortage in Omaha. This one comes in the form of a new market rate apartment complex being built in the Aksarben area at 7101 Mercy Road.

The new building replaces the four story Insurance Exchange Building that was constructed for Pinkerton Madden Burford insurance agency in 1967. In recent years it had been the home to the Aksarben Foundation and other businesses. The building was sold to the current developer, Mercy Holdings LLC, in 2020.

Construction on the new Ajax apartment complex started last year. It will contain 200 one, two and three bedroom apartments that include amenities such as a clubhouse, interior courtyard, swimming pool and patio. It will also have a multi-story parking garage which will have around 300 stalls when combined with surface level parking.

While the design is largely similar to other apartment projects around town, I like this one a bit better. Proximity to Aksarben Village a half mile to the east should make these popular.
