One of my favorite summer time hangouts is Sonny’s in Aksarben Village. Located at 67th and Shirley Streets next to Inner Rail Food Hall, the outdoor bar has live music every weekend and is the perfect place to unwind after a long week.

Sonny’s came to fruition after the 70-acre Aksarben Village development started in 2006. The area was split into 10 zones with zone 6 being the largest undeveloped portion by 2015. After the HDR Headquarters, a parking garage and the Inner Rail Food Hall were built, the area that remained was turned into a public space that retained the name Zone 6.

Zone 6 consisted of a dog park, green house and a pop up park. That park was improved in 2022 and as it evolved, it was named Sonny’s for a bar that operated out of an old Airstream camper on the site.

Sonny’s is a family friendly outdoor space with a ping pong table, cornhole, a large open space to dance and for the kids to run around and is located next to the dog park. While it doesn’t have food, you can order from Inner Rail.
