Located on the southeast corner of 50th and Leavenworth, a new 5-story apartment complex is being constructed. Named, The Walter, it is being built on the lot where a string of laundromats and a dry cleaning business once sat.

The lot consisted of three buildings: on the east was an office building that was home to Ted Hicks real estate, in the center was a Mobil gas station and the west was a dry cleaning business. The real estate office would become the home to Space City arcade in the early 1980s. The gas station was converted to a laundromat which expanded in the early 1990s and resulted in the razing of the office to the east.

The 58-unit apartment complex will consist of a 44 stall parking garage on the first floor. It will contain 46 one-bedroom units and 12 two-bedroom units. Amenities include a courtyard, lounge area and a pet exercise area. Rents for the market rate apartments will range from $1,600 to $2,000 per month.
