With so much development occurring in Omaha at this time, it’s hard to keep track of everything. One that did catch my eye, is Project Game On Omaha benefiting my high school alma mater, North High School. The project includes a new football, soccer and lacrosse stadium for the Vikings. Currently North is the only high school in Omaha Public Schools without a home field for football and soccer.

The project also includes a new Butler-Gast YMCA building at the corner of 34th and Ames Avenue. The YMCA will include a gym, swimming pool, exercise and community rooms.
The project is expected to revitalize the physical infrastructure along Ames Avenue without demolishing any houses or the use of eminent domain. Combined with North High School, Skinner Elementary School and the Butler-Gast YMCA, the project will serve as a community hub while offering physical, health, wellness and educational opportunities.

Demolition of the existing YCMA will start this fall. Both facilities will open in the summer of 2027.
