I found myself with a bit of time to kill this afternoon, so I spent it perusing Google Maps. I wanted to get an idea of the places that will be saved or demolished as a part of Creighton’s plan to build a new baseball and softball fields between Cuming and Burt Streets and from 17th to 20th Streets.

The 1913 Automatic Printing Buildings at 1713 Cuming Street will be saved and the complex will be built around it.

It appears that Grace Tabernacle Church at 1801 Cuming Street and Automatic Printing at 1713 Cuming Street will be saved from the wrecking ball. Both buildings date back to the 1910s. All others will be razed as have been razed including the former Mystery Manor building in 2023. Two are large warehouses that don’t represent any sort of historical loss that I am aware. The other is a small building from the 1950s but the fourth is large brick building was the home to the Hart-Sample Motor Company which is an unfortunate loss.

The 1910 Grace Tabernacle Church at 1801 Cuming Street will also be saved and the complex will be built around it.

The goal according to CU is move the softball and baseball fields away from the center of campus and replace them with a five-acre green space. It will allow the university to move the fields closer to the College World Series.

The Sample-Hart Ford Building at 723 N 18th Street will be razed.

The softball field should be ready this summer with the baseball field targeting 2026 allowing it to be used as a practice field by the CWS teams and for intramural play.
