Despite losing its final regular season game against the Iowa Hawkeyes in heartbreaking fashion, the Nebraska Cornhusker earned a berth to its first bowl game since 2016. Somewhat unbelievable is the fact that Nebraska has never played its opponent – Boston College.

Nebraska is the older of the two programs having started in 1890. This will mark its 54th bowl game in school history. The team finished 6-6 with notable wins over Colorado and Wisconsin this year. Boston College, meanwhile, started in 1893 and this year will mark its 31st bowl game. The team finished 7-5 with wins over Pittsburgh and Syracuse.

Results for Nebraska (on the left) and Boston College (on the right)
Boston College has experienced some level of success over the course of its history, its best season came in 1940 when it went undefeated. The school went on to beat the previously undefeated Tennessee Volunteers in the Sugar Bowl. The school claims that it was the national championship that season though Associated Press awarded that honor to the Minnesota Golden Gophers while the Stanford Cardinal and Tennessee were selected by other polling systems.

Nebraska, of course, experienced nearly unparalleled success during a 40 year stretch that started in 1962 and ended in 2001. During that time, Nebraska won five national championships in 1970, 1971, 1994, 1995 and 1997. Nebraska went to 15 bowl games since 2000 with its last being a 2016 loss in the Music City Bowl to the Tennessee Volunteers.

Nebraska will travel to New York City to play its first ever game in the Pinstripe Bowl. The bowl started in 2010 and is played annually in Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, New York. While this will be Huskers first time playing in this particular bowl, it did get its first-ever victory in a bowl game in New York City in the original Yankee Stadium in 1962. At that time, it was called the Gotham Bowl.
What are your thoughts on the game and its location? Do you plan to go? Who do you think will win? I’d love to hear what you have to say so feel free to leave a comment.
