The 50 Mile March recently acquired seven acres of land near 36th Street and Caphart Road in Bellevue. The plan is to build a community center for veterans called the Community of Hope Campus. The vision is to make it a one-stop shop for veterans. Proximity to Offutt Air Force Base and Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home should help ease the burden for those who currently travel to multiple locations for services.

The focus of the project is to provide mental health services, counseling, job training and housing for veterans struggling to reintegrate into civilian life. The plan is to build a 20,000 sq ft community center, dedicated space for community partnership and outreach initiatives and 22 tiny homes that will serve as transitional housing. The houses will be similar to the cottages at Siena Francis House. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 with a target to provide services starting in 2027.

For those that are unfamiliar, the 50 Mile March is an event in which individuals participate in an annual ruck march from the Nebraska State Capitol building in Lincoln to Nebraska Brewing Company in Omaha. The event is used to raise funds, awareness and resources for veterans facing mental health challenges and homelessness.

I also want to point out that I am a part of a fundraising group called Strikes & Staches that raises money for not only Mustaches for Kids but also the 50 Mile March and other non-profits. We’d love it if you followed our page: https://www.facebook.com/strikesandstaches
