My family also enjoys going to Zoolightful at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo. For this holiday event, they decorate the zoo with lights and add activities for the kiddos.

While the zoo started this latest iteration of the event in 2023, I did find references to it as far back as 1994. Last year the event included the following:

  • Polar Plaza which featured a 20-foot ice slide next to the Chill Zone (The Plaza Cafe).
  • Holiday Way with holiday lights illuminating the pathway.
  • Gingerbread Village where the kids and adults decorated gingerbread houses.
  • Merry Magic Theater which included Olaf’s Frozen Adventure and a movie.
  • Santa’s North Pole where kids visited and captured pictures with Santa.
  • Peppermint Pines and Reindeer Games Zone with private igloos for rent.

The experience was similar this year but the slide was replaced with a snowball toss and a sleigh ride virtual reality experience was added.

If you haven’t been, I highly recommend it. I’ve added a few pics from our visits this year and last year to give you an idea of what it is. It runs through December 30th and requires tickets.

I also did an exploration of the zoo from its beginnings as Riverview Park and its evolution to Omaha’s Henry Dooly Zoo. I pinned that story to the top of my page and will also add a link to the post on my website.

I’d love to hear what you have to say so please feel free to comment. Until next time, keep exploring!
