On the southeast corner of 48th and Dodge a five story apartment complex named The Arthur is being constructed. The project replaced nine houses along Douglas Street to the south and several commercial buildings along Dodge including the Young Kim’s gas station, Dundee Realty Company, Handyman on Command and Classic Golf.

Built in 1948 at 46th and Dodge, the former Pittman Veterinarian, is being repurposed as the leasing office. In addition to being an excellent example of the Art Moderne style, the building is significant for its association with Dr. Arthur Pittman, an African-American veterinarian and civic leader. The structure is also designated as a local landmark.

The 330-unit market rate apartment complex named for Dr. Pittman will stretch across 2.75 acres. While most will be studio apartments it will also have some one and two bedroom units. Amenities will include a fitness center with yoga and group fitness studio, dedicated work from home facilities, a large community lounge, a theater and media room, outdoor dog run and a resort style pool.

The project also includes 300 parking stalls within the structure. The complex is expected to house many employees from the nearby Med Center in addition to adding density along the ORBT line and increase its usage.
