The Artisan on 39th is a new apartment complex rising at 39th and Dodge Streets. The parcel of land used to be the home to TraveLodge Motel which was constructed in 1960. By the time it was sold in 1988 and became the Travel Inn, it had become an eyesore to those living in the adjacent Joslyn Castle neighborhood. The motel had fallen into disrepair and was a magnet for prostitution and drug trafficking in addition to being the site of three murders between 1994 and 2004.

The motel was forced to close by the city in 2004 due to multiple safety violations. The building was finally razed in 2006. Since that time, the site has remained an empty lot that had become a dumping ground full of weeds and overgrowth.

The five story, 136 unit market rate apartment complex currently under construction will include a courtyard, community room, fitness room and a rooftop deck with pool. It also includes 88 underground parking spaces. It is expected to open in the fall of 2024.
