The University of Nebraska Medical Center announced recently that it was going to build a $2.2B hospital on the SE corner of Farnam Street and Saddle Creek Road. The 18-20 story building could be as tall as 400 feet making it the fourth tallest building in Omaha following Mutual of Omaha (when completed), First National and Woodmen. This rendering shows the lot where Don & MIllie’s is located as a parking garage. The Med Center has owned this property for some time and leases to them.

This picture is looking southeast and shows how the area looks now. The hospital will built on the empty lot that is bounded by Saddle Creek on the west, Farnam to the north, 44th to the east and Dewey to the south.

The picture is an aerial view looking east from 1965. The arrow shows this lot which was undeveloped. The Med Center campus is primarily to its south and east and much smaller than today. The Dodge Street bridge that crosses Saddle Creek can be seen in the middle top while the old Commercial Federal building is to its left. The old Omaha Steel property is to the far left.
